Architecture
Propalms Terminal Services Edition (TSE) was developed with a unique ‘Role’ based architecture. All of the Propalms TSE roles are grouped into the concept of a ‘Team’. It is this architecture which allows Propalms TSE to provide a fully centralized management experience and be truly scalable.
A Propalms TSE Team consists of the following roles:
- One or more TSE Applications Servers installed on Windows Terminal Services Server
- One or more TSE Virtual Desktop Servers installed on VMware Server
- One or more TSE Web Servers installed on Microsoft Windows Internet Information Server (IIS)
- One or more TSE Load Balancer Servers installed on Windows Server
- One or more TSE Relay Servers installed on Windows Server

TSE Application Server Role
The purpose of the Application Server role is to enable Propalms TSE to control the terminal server, either Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008 or even 2000. Propalms TSE will manage the applications that have been installed on these Application Servers. It is this component which provides many of the enhancements that TSE gives you over and above native Terminal Services.
Requirements:
Windows Server (Terminal Services)
TSE Virtual Desktop Server Role
The Virtual Desktop Server role is responsible for hosting virtual instances of Windows XP or Windows Vista to allow users to connect to a ‘true’ desktop environment. These desktop instances are launched on the most available VD server role.
Requirements:
Windows Server
VMware Server
TSE Web Server Role
The main purpose of the Web Server role is to provide a front-end to Propalms TSE end-users and Propalms TSE administrators. The Web Server role provides two main websites:
- Propalms TSE Management Console
This administration site allows administrators to manage applications, virtual desktops, servers, domains, groups, OUs, client groups, users and all other aspects of the TSE system. - Propalms TSE Application LaunchPad
The Propalms TSE Application Launch Pad is a web-based application portal that provides easy access to any published application, desktop or content from your web browser.
Requirements:
Windows Server (IIS)
TSE Load Balancer Role
Propalms TSE enables administrators to load balance connection requests based on the resources of the servers. Propalms TSE supports resource based application-level load balancing as well as resource based connection-level load balancing. The load balancer role is responsible for determining which server, from those available to the requestor, has the largest amount of free resources.
Requirements:
Windows Server
TSE (DMZ) Relay Server Role
The purpose of the Relay Server role is to enhance security by opening only one port for communication for client computers to the Propalms TSE Team of servers. The role provides a ‘firewall friendly’ method of remote access as traffic travels over a single port using the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol. The Relay Server role is a non-essential role. By default, installation of Propalms TSE does not install the Relay Server role like other roles. In the Propalms team, the Propalms TSE administrator can deploy and configure the Relay Server role from the Propalms Management Console. It can be deployed on the network or in a DMZ scenario for the most secure access.
Requirements:
Windows Server Windows XP
