Virtual Desktop Server

The Propalms TSE Virtual Desktop Server Role allows for the provisioning of Microsoft Windows XP or Vista virtual desktop instances to end users in conjunction with or instead of using traditional Windows Terminal Services access. This feature alleviates the small but common scenario in many organizations that are looking at Server Based Computing technology where a certain group of power users need advanced rights or a particular application does not work on a multi-user environment. In the event of these types of scenarios a Virtual Desktop instance can be provided to the particular user giving them all of the capabilities of a ‘fat’ client desktop environment but still allowing the IT department to centralize the provisioning of the service.
Propalms VD Server enables you to connect to a virtual machine through the existing Propalms LaunchPad and Propalms Client Manager Interface from a Windows based PC Client. Propalms VDS can support only that guest operating system in a Virtual Machine which lets you remotely access a machine using RDP Protocol. Here is a list of Guest Operating systems that are supported by Propalms VDS
- Windows Vista Business, Ultimate and Enterprise
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows 2000 Server
- Windows 2003
- Windows 2008
This release of Propalms Virtual Desktop Server only supports VMware Server. Microsoft Virtual Server or any other Virtualization technology is not supported at this point in time. We are currently building support for a number of other virtualization technologies and will provide updates to this capability soon!
Propalms TSE 6.0 introduce one more type of role namely VD Server. This is the Server that hosts and manages the Virtual Machines. Propalms VD Servers are load balanced just like the application servers. Propalms TSE load balancers collects the load and performance data using various WMI counters from the VD Servers and selects the least loaded server for starting a virtual machine.
The Virtual Desktop Role is included as part of TSE 6.0 providing a single solution that can deliver both Terminal Services and Virtual Desktop application access.
